Organization Description

The OUR HOUSE Grief Support Center mission is to provide the community with grief support services, education, resources, and hope. Since 1993, OUR HOUSE has helped thousands of grieving children, teens, and adults as they embark upon their journeys to hope and healing. At OUR HOUSE, we provide essential grief support for a universal experience that deserves heightened understanding and acceptance. Our core programs, which are offered in English and Spanish, include:
-Grief Support Groups for adults and children
-School-Based Grief Support
-Summer Grief Camp Weekends for children
-Grief Trainings for Professionals
-On-Site Grief Responses

BOARD MEMBER REQUIREMENTS

  • Attend 4 quarterly Board meetings
  • Attend the annual retreat
  • Participate on at least one (1) committee
  • Meet the $10K annual Board “give and get”
  • Support and attend the annual Run for Hope, House of Hope Gala, Night for Hope and other primary agency events
  • Accept the Board Term of three (3) years
  • Be a constant and accurate ambassador for the agency

 

AMBASSADOR ROLE

The ambassador role has many facets, and we want to be clear that the role includes:

  • Supporting the mission and purpose of OUR HOUSE Grief Support Center
  • Continually expanding our circle of influence, and network with community contacts - both new and old - to cultivate and steward potential new Board members, significant donors, volunteers, and community collaborators
  • Providing referrals for the agency’s services, including support groups for adults and children, on-site grief responses, and professional education
  • Promoting and attending other agency events, such as those hosted by the agency, Associate Board, and Valley Advisory Board

Board charitable giving policy
Our Give & Get policy is $10,000 per year, which many of our Board members surpass annually. When our Associate Board (junior board) members move up to the Board of Directors, they are given a three-year orientation ramp up, allowing them get to the $10,000 by the third year. We may be open to employing a similar orientation period for additional new members. There is no distinction between give vs. get, so that a Board member may give their entire donation, or may "get" or raise the entire amount. We provide active fund development coaching and help, also match new Board members to a "buddy" to know that there is never a bad question. We have a new Board member orientation process, as well.

Other key board roles and responsibilities
Members of our Board of Directors are each motivated by an abiding interest in making sure our agency is sustained in providing grief support to children and adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. Many have their eye on expanding our services because the needs in our community are larger than existing services.
