PS Science

Organization Profile

Mission Statement

The great minds of tomorrow are in elementary schools everywhere, but science is not. PS Science brings inspiring lessons to classrooms that cultivate a deep understanding of the world and grow students and teachers who are confident and inspired by science.

PS Science enables children and their teachers to:
• See beauty, wonder, and infinite opportunity
• Do science through active exploration & collaboration
• Know the joy of discovery & the power of knowledge

PS Science narrows the skill gap for children living in poverty, improving their odds for future academic and career success, by providing weekly, hands-on science education. Countless elementary school children do not receive formal science instruction, particularly in under-resourced communities.

Organization Description

PS Science supports classroom teachers in Title I elementary schools around Los Angeles with materials, curriculum and training so they can provide their students with regular and on-going science. With access to science from an early age, PS Science aims to ensure that all kids have an equal chance at the STEM careers of the future.

Equity Statement

At PS Science, striving for justice, diversity, equity and inclusion (“JEDI”) for all is critical to our mission and values. We know that having a team that is diverse in race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, ability, sexual orientation, age, background, and opinions — and fostering inclusion among that team — is core to achieving our organizational goals. PS Science strives to recruit talent from a diverse pool of candidates and ensure that those professionals it hires and brings on to the board are sufficiently supported so that they flourish. The organization wants everyone to not only have a seat at the table, but to know that their presence and input makes the organization stronger.
