Introduction
Latinos LEAD (Latinos for Leadership Excellence And Diversity) is launching the second phase of its initiative to collaborate with climate and conservation nonprofit organizations to increase the racial and ethnic diversity of their governing boards. This initiative is supported by grants from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and a grant from an anonymous donor-advised fund.
During this phase of the initiative, Latinos LEAD will provide a free, virtual Inclusion Blueprint workshop for the leadership teams of as many as ten climate and conservation nonprofit organizations. This workshop will provide specific, measurable, and practical tools for defining inclusion goals and recruiting and retaining Latino governing board members. Organizations that successfully complete this workshop are eligible for reduced-fee governing board member recruiting services from Latinos LEAD.
four specific goals
Purpose and Process
This initiative is specifically designed to support the efforts of climate and conservation nonprofit organizations seeking governing boards that authentically reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the communities they serve. The LEAD with Intent process drives organizations to accomplish four specific goals:
- Acquire a realistic understanding of the current opportunities for–and potential challenges to–successfully recruiting and retaining Latino governing board members.
- Adopt an Inclusion Statement.
- Specify the objectives, timeline, and accountability assignments for recruiting Latino governing board members.
- Provide direct recruitment of Latino governing board members for organizations that are ready.
